Open future

Still not clear to me, what are my career ambitions. I am open to all possibilities, including work on something that does not relate to my profession. But if I choose something related to journalism, I'd like to be a war correspondent or work in programs such as cable like Travel & Living or National Geographic. All I know is that I would like to travel and learn about other cultures. I shall be happy at any job that bring me those opportunities.

School

The school system in Chile lasts 12 years, divided into two stages: primary and secondary. The quality of education is not good, especially in state colleges.
To go to college, students should wear uniforms. The men wear shirts, trousers, tie, jacket and shoes. On the other hand, women dress shirts, skirts or jumpers, tie and shoes.

My boering neighborhood

My house is located in a passage in the commune of Vitacura. My neighborhood is calm and not many people use to walk through the streets, except those providing services such as garbage collection or gardening. In my neighborhood, the houses are varied: smalls, big, new, old, etc ... In addition, there are many green areas, but nobody uses them. Anyway I think my neighborhood is something boring like the people who lives’ there.

The tour begins by giving an overview of the legacy bequeathed by some religious orders who started the process of conquest and evangelization in Chile. As the creed professed by the majority of the population of our country is Catholic, Apostolic and Roman, who has a long tradition that has a standing of more than five centuries. On this tour, will visit some of the largest churches in the capital, where we stress the ecclesiastical history which is firmly rooted in our national culture. A tour of the churches we encounter the story; The Church of San Agustin, San Francisco, Church of La Merced, and finally the Cathedral of Santiago.

Movies

This month, I saw two films of Alejandro Jodorovsky: El Topo and Santa Sangre. I was surprised to see two very different works of the same director. El Topo, comparable to David Lynch’s films - is a succession of dreamlike sequences that run slowly for the Chilean desert. On the other hand, Santa Sangre, is a story that happens in the city, with a well-defined plot. Besides, the latter is more colorful and the characters are more developed. Personally I prefer movies like Santa Sangre to other as El Topo.

I don´t want to ride my bicycle again

This day I didn´t find my car, so I took my bicycle bought in Miami and I started myself. I passed for the ice-cream shop where there were the pretty ass girls, that were flirting with the pathetic surfers of Viña. I was driving calmly, when a damned dog began to bark me. I accelerated for a dark and little street, residence of prostitutes and beggars. The dog was running increasingly nearby me. Suddenly, it jumped to attack me and I tried to kick it, without success. The result was bad: I fell down, doing big riot, with all these people looking me. When the dog saw this scene, it went out running. Fucking dog, so chilean ... so much to bark to go out running.

My school

In schools in Chile goes from 8 am to 3 pm, although some institutions vary in time. The Basic level goes for 8 years and is divided into 2 cycles and 8 degrees (6 to 13 years old). High School split into Humanist and Scientific, Technical-Vocational and artistic, with a duration of 4 years.
In Chile school children in almost all schools use uniforms (skirts or jumpers for women with gray shirt and trousers for men) and few schools that accept ordinary clothes to attend classes.

My professional ambitions

My professional ambitions are focused on developing my career in any media. To become a good profesional for my abilities to write and explore interesting topics. I want to serve the people and denounce all the unjust things that are happening in Chile.
My professional life is going to begin in March 2009, for what I intend to start work after the holidays and dedicate myself full time to communicate the truths of the world.

The place I live

The place where I live is surrounded by houses and trees that give a special touch to the neighborhood. The contact with nature and the separation with the noise of cars and buses, help to live more relaxed. Near my house is a supermarket, a gym and cafes to spend the day, there is also a school and a hospital for the people. In general is a good and comfortable place to live and spend some time with the family.

Sheraton Hotel

Sheraton Hotel delivers the highest quality hotels in the capital. It has over 370 rooms, staff ready to help at any time of day, gardens surrounded by sports fields and green areas, conference rooms for guests who have business in mind. Sheraton Santiago Hotel and Convention Center is located steps from the house of Pablo Neruda, the Metropolitan Zoological Park, the Cerro San Cristobal and the best shopping places, restaurants and bars.

City Tour

If you want to spend a good time in Santiago eating at restaurantes, yo should probably go to a place where some typical food is served. In first place, the restaurant “Chilenazo” it’s highly recomended place, there you can eat a lot of classic dishes of our country, for example, Cazuela de Ave, Pastel de Choclo, or some good Empanadas. For dessert, it’s recomended for you to taste a “Mote con Huesillo” a typical drink of Chile.

Comparison between two movies

“Rec” is a spanish movie of terror about a journalist that is trapped in a house where strange things happens, and that is habitated by strange creatures created from a virus that was spreaded by a crazy scientist. “The blair witch proyect” is also a horror film, but its context is different. This story is about three students that start a trip with a camera searching for a witch that is supposed to be hidden in a forest. Both are similiarly recorded, with a “camera in hand style”, but there are some differences between each other. The first one is scarier, but “The blair witch proyect” is more important as a film, because it was one of the first movies of horror that used this kind of “documental style”.

Weather Report

Tomorrow, Santiago will be a very sunny with a maximum of 32° and a minumun of 14°. At afternoon some clouds will appear, but the sun still will be shining. For weekend is expected the same weather, with even more hot days to come.

Typical Day

Yesterday I woke up late because I slept just 3 hours. Still sleeping, I went fast to my kitchen to grab some food for breakfast, then I started my journey to university. When I arrived, my english teacher was waiting for me in class. I said hello to my friends and I started to listen the wonderful class my teacher gave us. Then I went to have lunch because I was starving. My next class was boring so I took my car and I drove all the way to my girlfriend’s house. We spent some time together and then I went back to my house to sleep a little. I woke up, I ate some food, and then I went to bed again.

Carmen Electra

The chilean's school

The school system in Chile is traditional. Boys go to the school with gray pants and white shirt, a tie and black shoes.
Some schools have a vest with an institution’s badge. Girls go to school with a jumper, large blue socks and white blouse.

Sometimes, school teachers in basic teach a lot of classes. But in media, there is a teacher for a specific class.

Usually school in Chile opens theirs doors at eight in the morning, and close around three in afternoon.

I have the new line of subway (Línea 4) close to my home.
There are a lot of threes, big front yards, and a few parks.

In Ñuñoa we haven’t rush hours. There aren’t many cars and people use bicycles.

A city tour around Santiago

In Santiago there’s a very good restaurant in Bellavista neighborhood, on the corner of Constitucion and Dardignac, called Il Siciliano.
They serve a very good Italian food. And in Bellavista neighborhood you can go to Zoo, you can take an elevator to the top of San Cristobal hill, and you can see de most beautiful view in Santiago.
Then, you can take the “funicular” and live a very good experience. So then, you can go down to Bellavista again, cross the Andrés Bello Street and visit the most important museum in Chile: Museo de Bellas Artes.

A comparison between two movies: "The Lord of the Ring" and "Tony Manero"

“The lord of de ring” is a wonderful movie. Is longer than “Tony Manero”, but is more interesting.
Tony Manero has a cheap production and “The Lord of The Ring” is more expensive, because have a lot of special effect.

But “Tony Manero” has a very good actor: Alfredo Castro. He is the best actor in Chile and he acting better than the actors of “The Lord of the Ring”.

Madonna

Madonna is globalization, it is a universal trend.
No one has been able to adapt to the vanguards of the world like her. In this picture she

appeared like a rock star, the end of the 70 '.
She is wearing clothes adjusted, tall boots, brown hair and blond hair then, then brown again.
That era was accompanied by his early successes: "Lucky Star" and "Physical Attacion" from his album Madonna.

My new reflex

One week ago I received the reflex camera I bought in United States. My uncle, who’s a business man that’s always travelling around the world, spent all the money I gave him on it. But the long wait was worth it. Once I got it in my hands, I ran down the building and I started shooting everything I saw, even some old funny lady. After that I made a call to Camila, a friend of mine that loves the photos just like me. We walked for one hour between the Parque Forestal trees, taking pictures. After that, spent there all my afternoon, we took a bus and went to her house. But on the way to her building, we had problems: I don’t know if I looked afraid because I was carrying such expensive camera, but somehow –I don’t know why-, some young and strange kid came to us and started making rare questions: he wanted to steal my new reflex. Luckily as I am, suddenly a police car appeared and he ran down the street without it.

Daniel's biography

My name is Daniel Castell. For the last five years I've been studying journalism at the Diego Portales University, in Santiago, Chile, and for the last 16 years I've been living in this country so, obviously, I'm a regular and normal chilean guy. But even If I talk, dress or act like one, the true it's that I born in Barcelona, Spain. When I was 7 years old, in 1992, my parents decided to come here, the place where they were born. Since then, Chile has become the place were I live, my hometown.

The story about how I decided to study this career it's funny. When I was 4 my dream was to become an archaeologist, not because I loved antiques or story lessons, only 'cause for me Indiana Jones was the best thing around the world. When I grew up I realised that being an archaeologist was not so funny like movies make it look . After jumping from one profession to another, I realized that journalism was the best form me: five years after making that decision, I'm working on two magazines, one TV channel and one web site.
